I was absolutely thrilled to be contacted by the C.R.O.W.N. project for a submission. I wrote a very long one which I left for a day. When I came back to it I decided that I didn’t want to be quite so wordy. Sometimes simplicity is the best path and since this blog is themed on self esteem I want to write about love. Specifically, I want to write about loving yourself and what that really means.

Some years ago I made a painting depicting a green laughing Buddha. Because I am a writer I incorporated text into my painting. I want to share that text with you today.

There are times when we will be most critical.
We will lack compassion and caring, or feel unable to forgive ourselves.
We are unwilling to try because we believe we do not deserve it.

However there is no greater strength than that of self knowledge,
the root of which is found in our belief and ability for self love.

Of this we are worthy.

Love yourself. Not because someone says you are lovable. Not because you are told to. Love yourself because you deserve your own love, respect and admiration. Love yourself because when you cultivate compassion for yourself you can offer compassion to those around you. Love yourself because that is the greatest thing you can do to change the world.
